We took a long vacation over the Thanksgiving holiday- first we visited my brother in Philadelphia. We made it through about 10 minutes of the 30 minute Independence hall tour- Jacob was very impressed with the bell with the big crack.
We found this homeless little waif in Washington square (it is where the tomb of the unkown soldier from the revolutionary war is)
I think Jacob was more impressed by the pigeons then everything. He was convinced there was supposed to be ducks in the fountain in Washington Square
We then went to Sperryville, VA to visit my other brother who runs a ranch there. It was so beautiful with all the leaves changing. Jacob and his cousin Brett are looking for eggs in the chicken coop.
Merry chased a poor chicken down and carried it around. After Brian told her she couldn't carry it by the wings she got mad at the chicken and kicked it. She made up for it by giving it some chicken feed.
This is Jacob and his pretty cousin Ava- she got her rabbit at the small animal auction for 1 dollar- I think this might qualify her family as rednecks
We visited the smithsonian museum of natural history- Thanks to jacob's speed we saw most of the museum in about 2 hrs.
Forget the washington Monument- the lights around it were way cooler
If you look close at the lincoln memorial picture Jacob is sitting by a sign that says no sitting. This was right before the security gaurd told Brian to control his kids
Thanksgiving at the kid's table- My sister in law made cute cornicopias (sp?) out of icecream cones and candy- I think this was the most popular thanksgiving dish.
This is Jacob with his 4 cousins that are all his age- he had such a fun time playing with them all
We went to NY after Thanksgiving- It was freezing cold and rainy- This is outside St. Pauls Chapel across the street from the World Trade Center site
Merry at rockerfeller center - she definately has her own sense of style

Wow, what a fun trip! That reminds me of when Paul and I went before Eric, but y'all got to do and see so much more! I love the picture of Jacob practically sitting on the "no sitting" sign. Too funny
What a grand holiday you had! I cooked for 10 kids and 6 adults and then went to bed exhausted. I think I will come with you next time. Since we have been married most of our vacations have centered around Paul's sisters weddings (slave labor trips). But his youngest was married last summer so we are excited to go somewhere new. Your travel log has inspired me.
More entertaining than anything else are all your comments to go along with the pictures. They made me laugh! Merry with the chicken and Jacob next to the no sitting sign especially! Your family is so funny. Looks like you guys had a ton of things to do while you were there. I would love to go out east again some day and see all that cool stuff. I've been to Boston for a school trip but we didn't do much.
wow! what a trip! you went everywhere!
and hey, I can't believe that merry was actually holding that chicken! I'm such a wimp! I would never do that!
very fun! welcome back!
Those are all places that I have always wanted to go to, and you have been to all of them in just one vacation. I am so jealous. I like Merri's style.
